This track depicts Matariki, the Maori New Year, which is celebrated at the beginning of the New Zealand winter. It is a time to traditionally enjoy the food that has been gathered, spend time with whanau (family) and friends, tell stories for enjoyment and learning and remember those who have lived before.
lyrics
Matariki, Happy New Year,
Matariki, the stars appear,
And they twinkle up in the sky,
Matariki, Haere Mai.
Time to gather your family,
Time to love them joyfully,
Time for friendships that never end,
Matariki, you're my friend.
Let us think of our gifts to share,
To help all people ev'rywhere,
So we listen, and so we know,
A time to teach, a time to grow.
Matariki, New Year of change,
And we walk on, we're not the same,
Let us remember all those who've gone,
Matariki, this is their song.

I love music - I love kids! Little Minstrels all began with a few classes at a preschool in 2005. Since then it has grown
into my part-time job and full-time passion, developing my own teaching programme and writing and recording songs to suit. These songs have stood the test of time and have been loved by the preschoolers I teach. I hope your chidren enjoy them too!...more
