about

This track is designed to be acted out.
5 children stand in a line, being the snowman. (I give them white scarves, but some other prop would also work).
5 children stand behind, holding something dark (black scarves).
3 or more children are the sun, which comes out and dances at the appropriate time (yellow scarves).
The shadows 'melt' at the same time as the snowmen; the sun sits down after the line 'when the sun comes out...'

The song teaches that the sun moves, and as it moves, the shadows move as well - in this case moving off the snowmen one by one, putting them in direct heat of the sun and thus melting them into a puddle of water.

lyrics

In the shadow of a wall stands 5 snowmen,
When the sun comes up it gets hot again.
Then one snowman slowly melts away.
How many snowmen are left to play?

In the shadow of a wall stands 4 snowmen,
When the sun comes up it gets hot again.
Then one snowman slowly melts away.
How many snowmen are left to play?

In the shadow of a wall stands 3 snowmen,
When the sun comes up it gets hot again.
Then one snowman slowly melts away.
How many snowmen are left to play?

In the shadow of a wall stands 2 snowmen,
When the sun comes up it gets hot again.
Then one snowman slowly melts away.
How many snowmen are left to play?

In the shadow of a wall stands 1 snowman,
When the sun comes up it gets hot again,
Then the last snowman slowly melts right down,
There's a puddle of water on the ground,
And no icy snowmen to be found.
